If you have some prayers to spare...

I will share with you my weekend.  My Memorial Day weekend that was supposed to be spent hanging out with friends and laughing and enjoying the warm Jersey weather here at the Jersey Shore.  Well, my weekend was not the best. My best friend is in ICU and she’s very critical. Saturday morning she woke up, rolled onto her husband’s chest, said “I don’t feel good” pretty normally, and then rolled onto her back and turned blue. Her heart stopped. They did CPR on her until the ambulance got there and they took her to the local ER. They had to keep doing CPR to keep her heart going, she wasn’t breathing on her own either. They did a CT scan to see if there was any brain damage, but they said the scan will need to be repeated. They then decided to helicopter her to Jersey Shore Medical Center, which is a trauma center since they really had no idea what was wrong with her. Her heart stopped several times. In the helicopter they had to use the defibrillator paddles on her. They are thinking that a small blood clot made it’s way into the heart and stopped it. She’s hanging in there. They had her in a medically induced coma since Saturday and Monday started to take her off the meds to keep her paralyzed. When I got up there Monday her eyes were slightly opened. In the hour I spent in the room with her husband and her parents, she tried to move her arms, she held our hands, she turned her head and blinked her eyes. She tried so hard to follow her husband’s voice around the room and focus on his face. Her CT scan Monday showed a significant amount of brain damage, they just don’t know exactly what we are dealing with yet. She also has damage to her liver and kidneys that they say is from the trauma and they are functioning slowly, but that isn’t the main concern right now.  They also mentioned that at some point during this ordeal she suffered a stroke as well.  Last night I sat with her for hours...she looks so tired.  I sat next to my best friend last night and watched helplessly as she had a seizure.  The doctor assured us that was common in people who come out of a coma and that they are aware she's having them but aren't treating them since that would sedate her and they are trying not to do that so they could assess her alertness.  She's still not awake or alert yet.  She opens her eyes every now and then but she isn't really with it. One day at a time, I can’t stop thinking about her and praying. Her husband has been wonderful, he doesn’t leave her side. I just want my best friend back :( Any prayers would be greatly appreciated. She can use all the prayers she can get. She’s a fighter and I have faith she will be ok. It's just so hard to see someone you care so much about fighting so hard for their life. She's only 27 years old...she's too young for this. She's having an MRI done today, so hopefully that shows something...the family needs answers, they are a mess.
